Abstract

Statement of the problem. In recent years, it has been shown that the background for the formation and development of a number of diseases, including dental, is the hidden vitamin and mineral deficiency of the human body against the background of unbalanced nutrition, which affects the availability of antioxidants. Purpose of the study. Study of the effect of vitamin E (α-tocopherol acetate) on the redox state of tissues and lipid peroxidation indicators in rats in modeling periodontitis and dental caries with appropriate diets with excess ammonium and sucrose. Research methods. The dental caries model was obtained by keeping animals on the diet of S. A. Nikitin and M. S. Bugaeva, the periodontitis model – by introducing ammonium chloride into the diet of animals. Two experimental groups received vitamin E (α-tocopherol acetate) with food (production of "Kyiv Vitamin Plant", Ukraine). The acid-base balance in the blood of animals was determined by generally accepted methods. In rat tissues, the amount of sulfhydryl and disulfide groups, malondialdehyde and diene conjugates was determined. The redox state was judged by the ratio of the content of sulfhydryl and disulfide groups of water-soluble proteins and the indicators of lipid peroxidation. Scientific novelty. The effect of vitamin E on the redox balance and lipid peroxidation indicators in the body of experimental animals was studied when modeling dental caries and periodontitis against the background of impaired acid-base balance. Alternative acid-base balance disorders, metabolic alkalosis and metabolic acidosis were established in the blood of rats under the influence of cariogenic and ammonium diets ‒ models of dental caries and periodontitis. When exposed to vitamin E, a normalizing effect is noted in rat tissues on the content of thiols and disulfides, malondialdehyde and diene conjugates. Conclusions. Vitamin E normalizes the redox state and lipid peroxidation in rats and can be further investigated as a method for the prevention and correction of dental diseases.
